Anklets

The spiral at the center of this piece is the same shape people have been carving into rock and pressing into metal for longer than anyone can trace. I made this one for the people who feel something when they see it - who put it on their ankle and find themselves looking down at it during the day.

The spiral is formed from a single continuous copper strip, coiled by hand from the center outward, then joined to the band which I shape separately and curve gently so it sits right against the ankle. People who wear copper at the ankle tell me their joints feel steadier - their knees, their feet, the parts that carry everything.

This is one of the last anklets I'll make before I close my workshop. I hope the spiral finds the ankle it belongs on.

This is the piece I spend the most time on - every strand of the braid woven over and under by hand, the tension kept even all the way around so the pattern stays true. I made this for the people whose ankles and legs have been carrying them for decades without complaint, who need their circulation to keep up with lives that don't slow down.

There's something about the weight of this piece against the ankle - substantial, present - that people either notice immediately or come back to tell me about later. The ones who wear copper consistently say the same thing: they stopped noticing what they used to notice.

This is the piece people reach for when they want something they'll forget they're wearing - until they look down and remember it's there. I made this one for the people who don't want weight or statement, just copper against the skin doing what copper does. The dimples across the surface are ball-peen hammer marks, each one placed by hand - lighter and more spaced than some of my heavier pieces, which gives this one a different quality of light when the sun catches it.

Each oval panel is hand-linked, one at a time, with 21 magnets set into the copper along the full length. Nothing rushed, nothing forced just steady work.
